TAMPA - The Bulls were able to clinch the season series behind solid pitching on Saturday night.

USF (16-8, 2-0) defeated Big East opponent Georgetown, 6-1, before a crowd of 1,141 at USF baseball complex.

Joey Lovecchio and Ray Delphey combined to give up only five hits, one run and four strikeouts.

"It was a great outing for Joe and Delphey was outstanding," said Prado.

Jimmy Falla batted in Chad Taylor on a two-out single to right field to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Centerfielder Justin Leeson put the Hoyas on scoreboard in the top of the third inning with an RBI-single to score Trevor Matern and tie the game at 1.

Georgetown put two runners in scoring position in the top of the fourth inning, but Joey Lovecchio struck out Danny Poplawski and kept the game tied at 1.

Lovecchio kept the Hoyas from scoring again in the fifth inning.  Matern hit a leadoff double and moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt, but the junior pitcher forced Leeson to groundout to the shortstop and end the threat.

The Bulls added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Alex Mendez singled and Taylor and James Ramsay hit back-to-back doubles to give the Bulls a 3-1.

The Bulls bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Todd Brazeal hit a solo shot to right center field to pick up his first homerun of the season.  Luis Llerena hit a two-out single and Mendez followed with a two-run homerun to seal the win for the Bulls.

"Todd had a good swing on a pitch and Mendez has been swinging the bat pretty good," said Prado. "I'm proud of both of those guys."

The Bulls look to sweep the season series against Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Sunday at USF baseball complex.
