After winning just two road conference matches in 2012, the USF volleyball team has a road win-streak brewing.
The Bulls (11-10 overall, 5-2 The American) won their third consecutive road match, coming back from a one-set deficit to top Houston in four sets Sunday afternoon, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.
Using 13 blocks and a 68-58 digs advantage to shut down the Cougars' offense, USF forced Houston into 23 hitting errors in the final three sets to control the match.
After dropping the first set for the third time in four matches, the Bulls bounced back in the second. Sophomore Erin Fairs made the most of her return to her home state, knocking down six of her team-high 18 kills and adding a block to pace USF in a 25-22 win.
Senior Andrea Rodriguez Gomez dominated the third set, notching four kills in eight swings while adding four block assists and an ace. The Bulls withstood a 6-0 run from the Cougars to start the match, and didn't trail after the 12-point mark to take a 2-1 lead in the match. USF would not trail at any point in the final set either, allowing just five Houston kills to finish off the Cougars in four.
Fairs' 18 kills and 23 digs were bothe team highs, as were Rodriguez Gomez's eight block assists. Six Bulls had at least two blocks, and five recorded at least six kills as USFmoved into third place in The American.
The Bulls return home Friday to face Memphis, and will cap off the first half of the conference schedule Sunday afternoon against Temple.
