Chalk up another win for the USF volleyball team.
The Bulls (12-10 overall, 6-2 The American) continued their hot play of late, knocking off Memphis (11-11, 3-5) in The Corral Friday night to slide into a tie with Temple for second place in The American.
USF out-blocked Memphis 18-7, dominating the play at the net to secure its fourth consecutive win, 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-19.
Middle blockers Andrea Rodriguez Gomez and Jennica Mullins set the tone for the Bulls defensively, racking up a combined 18 blocks. Rodriguez Gomez tallied 10 block assists, collecting her first double-double of the season as she added 13 kills, hitting .500. Mullins contributed eight blocks, including a pair of solo stuffs.
The Bulls' hitters took turns leading the offense, as USF got seven of its 13 kills from Erin Fairs in the first set, and five of its 12 kills from Ciara Brown in the second. Rodriguez Gomez took the reins in the final two sets, knocking down eight kills in her final 10 swings to send the Bulls to their sixth win in the last seven matches.
Fairs finished with 18 kills and 18 digs, posting her 17th double-double of the season, and freshman libero Amy Van Sant collected at least 15 digs for the 10th time this year, finishing with 18.
The Bulls return to action Sunday in The Corral, taking on Temple for a shot at sole possession of second place as the first half of the conference season winds down.
