The Bulls' volleyball team returned to their winning ways, hitting the road and sweeping past Connecticut Friday night for their fourth straight road victory, and eighth win in the last ten matches.
USF (14-11 overall, 8-3 The American) got another strong effort from senior middle blocker Andrea Rodriguez Gomez, who hit a team-best .571 to lead the Bulls to victory, 25-18, 25-21, 27-25.
The Bulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, and didn't even allow a tie as they cruised to the 25-18 win. USF found a way past UConn's five team blocks, getting five kills from Erin Fairs and three from Jennica Mullins to out-hit the Huskies .135-(-).029 in the set.
UConn corrected its offense in the second set, but Rodriguez Gomez went on a tear with five kills, a service ace and two blocks to help lead the Bulls into a 2-0 match lead.
Devlin's eight-dig, eight-assist third set pushed the Bulls through the closest set of the evening. Devlin led the team in digs in a set where USF forced the Huskies into a .000 hitting percentage, sealing the win.
Fairs posted yet another double-double, knocking down 12 kills and 16 digs, while Ciara Brown added nine kills. Rodriguez Gomez piled seven blocks on top of her eight kills.
USF looks to continue its strong play Sunday, taking on Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
