Allen Jr. Caps Off USF's Colossal Comeback Win

FAIRFAX, Va.Corey Allen Jr. hit a 10-foot fadeaway jumper with 2 seconds remaining to cap off USF's incredible 68-66 comeback victory at George Mason on Wednesday night.

USF trailed by 17 points in the second half and stormed back with a 23-1 run before pulling out a win head coach Stan Heath won't forget anytime soon.

"Wow. I tell you what, that goes on my list as one of the great all-time comebacks. It's one of the best wins," said Heath after the Bulls improved to 5-2 overall and 2-0 on the road for the first time since 2006.

USF trailed, 34-29, at the half and saw its deficit grow to 53-36 with 12:19 remaining before the Bulls bounced back in a big way. Chris Perry's dunk cut the deficit to 12 with 9:26 to play and a George Mason technical foul paved the way for four straight made free throws by Anthony Collins at the 8:55 mark.

"I thought that changed the whole game," Heath said.

Collins followed that up by connecting with Javontae Hawkins an alley-oop dunk that swung the momentum in USF's favor.  George Mason went scoreless for more than 6 minutes while the Bulls rattled off 18 straight points.

USF's lead was cut to 1 three times in the final 3 minutes and George Mason tied the game at 66 with a 3-pointer by Bryon Allen with 21 seconds remaining. Heath took a timeout with 15 seconds on the clock and then turned things over to Corey Allen Jr., who knocked down the winning shot from the baseline.

"I just thought that was our best weapon going down the stretch, but there were so many guys that stepped up," Heath said.

Allen posted 14 of his team-high 19 points in the second half and scored six of USF's final eight points.  Victor Rudd posted his third straight game in double figures with 15 points, while freshman Chris Perry registered his first-career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

USF returns to the Sun Dome to host Alabama on Saturday at 9 p.m. and fans can purchase tickets HERE.
