By SEAN BAROWS GoUSFBulls.com TAMPA – The USF softball team worked their way out of an early four-run deficit against Quinnipiac to pick up their ninth straight win. The Bulls (15-10) clawed their way back and took the lead for good on a three-run blast from Kourtney Salvarola in the third. Freshman pitcher Erica Nunn struggled early on giving up three hits and four runs in the first inning. Jordan Paolucci hit a grand slam to left center to give the Bobcats the early advantage. The Bulls got one back in the bottom half of the first when Stephanie Medina hit a solo home run over the right field fence. It was Medina's third homer and 14th run batted in so far this season. Sam Greiner came in to relive Nunn to start the third inning and pitched two perfect innings for USF on the way to picking up her third win of the year. A big five-run third inning helped the Bulls regain the lead. Courtney Goff scored after a throwing error by Quinnipiac's first baseman on Ashli Goff's bunt single to make it 4-2. Medina then singled in D'Anna Devine from third for her second RBI of the game to cut Quinnipiac's lead to one. Then Salvarola capped the inning off with a line drive three-run homer to left center to put USF up 6-4 heading into the fourth. The home run was Salvarola's third of the season. The Bulls tacked on another in the fifth after Lee Ann Spivey drove in her team-leading 15th run of the year with a single up the middle. Sara Nevins came on in relief to pitch three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out five while recording her fourth save. The Bulls take on Maine in game two of the double header as they look to extend their winning streak into double digits.
