Bulls Sweep UConn, Extend Win Streak to 12

By TOM ZEBOLD TAMPA – The No. 28 Bulls are alone atop the Big East standings after extending their season-high winning streak to 12 games Sunday at UConn. Jimmy Falla drove in a pair of runs and Joey Lovecchio provided another quality start as USF completed a three-game sweep with a 4-3 victory at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, Conn. The Bulls (26-14, 10-2) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first with an RBI double by James Ramsay and Falla's run-scoring sacrifice fly. Falla drove in his second run in the third and gave USF a 4-0 lead in the fifth by scoring on a wild pitch. Kyle Teaf went 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored as the shortstop extended his on-base streak to 34 games. Lovecchio (4-2) struck out two and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits in 6 2/3 innings. Each USF starter went at least six innings in the series that started with freshman Jimmy Herget going 7 2/3 innings on Friday night. The Bulls complete a five-game road trip 7 p.m. Tuesday at Florida before returning home for a three-game series against St. John's that starts 7 p.m. Friday at USF Baseball Stadium. |
