TAMPA – The University of South Florida volleyball team used the majority of its roster Saturday afternoon, finding court time for 12 different players during a 3-1 win over Austin Peay at The Corral.
The Bulls (2-1) usded 14 blocks spread over six different players to hold the Governors (0-2) to an .074 hitting percentage, topping Austin Peay 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-12 to head into what will be the Championship Match of the USF Tournament against Ball State Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Senior middle blocker Andrea Rodriguez Gomez led the way with eight blocks and counterpart Jennica Mullins added five as the Bulls controlled the middle of the net, and put pressure on the Governors to find ways around the block.
Offensively, the Bulls collected 52 kills from eight different players, including a career-best 19 off the arm of sophomore outside hitter Erin Fairs, and 10 from redshirt freshman Kayla Bivins.
Fairs also set a career high in digs, notching a match-high 23 and grabbing her third consecutive double-double of the season. Dakota Hampton, Wylie Devlin and Amy Van Sant also reached double digits in digs, contributing 19, 13 and 12, respectively.
