TAMPA – USF head volleyball coach Courtney Draper preaches running a balanced offense, and the Bulls did just that Saturday afternoon, getting all six hitters involved in a three-set sweep over FAU, winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-20.
Each USF hitter recorded at least four kills, and five attackers took at least 13 attempts as the Bulls (5-5 overall) spread things out against the Owls, hitting .254 as a team to collect their fifth win of the season.
Ciara Brown gave USF some great front-row production early in the match, knocking down five first-set kills in six attempts, and playing error-free volleyball throughout the match. The Bulls followed Brown's lead, committing just nine errors in the first two sets while knocking down 30 kills, out-hitting FAU .292-.128 through two sets to take a 2-0 lead in the match. USF trailed just twice in the first two sets.
The Bulls' middle blockers provided a spark offensively as well as on the defensive end, knocking out a combined 12 kills on 21 attacks, and playing a hand in all but one of the Bulls' 11 blocks. Jennica Mullins had an especially-solid match in the blocks department, notching eight (one solo) to go with her seven kills.
The trio of Erin Fairs, Dakota Hampton and Amy Van Sant were again the three Bulls reaching double-digit digs, with Hampton adding a career-high three service aces. The Bulls complete their tournament Saturday night, taking on No. 22 Purdue at 7 p.m.
