Coming off a marathon five-set loss to host school Northwestern Friday afternoon, the Bulls returned to the floor for a nightcap against the IUPUI Jaguars, and put together a pair of great performances up the middle, despite suffering a three-set sweep.
USF (5-8 overall) put away 18 of its 37 kiils via middle blockers Jennica Mullins and Andrea Rodriguez Gomez, as the duo hit a combined .552, committing just one error apiece in a dominating performance.
Mullins, a junior transfer for the Bulls, collected nine kills along with a pair of solo blocks, and played error-free volleyball throughout the first two sets.
Rodriguez Gomez came out strong, contributing four kills in just five swings in the first set, and caused problems throughout the match for the Jaguars, finishing with nine kills and six blocks.
But IUPUI held a strong edge in the serving and receiving department, grabbing seven service aces to USF's one. The Jaguars' aggressive service game allowed IUPUI to hold USF to a .165 hitting percentage in the Bulls' loss.
Natalia Soares led USF in assists with 21, and added six digs. Erin Fairs was held below 10 kills for just the second time this season, but contributed a team-best 13 digs.
The Bulls face Miami (Ohio) Saturday at 9 p.m. Eastern in their final non-conference match of the regular season.
