TAMPA, JAN. 22, 2014 – A season-high crowd of 6,417 packed the Sun Dome but the Bulls couldn't find their groove in an 86-47 loss to No. 12/9 Louisville on Wednesday night.
Wayne Blackshear led four other Cardinals in double figures with a game-high 16 points while Louisville shot 50 percent from the field and knocked down 12 of 23 3-point attempts in its fourth straight victory.
"They dictated and did whatever they wanted to do. We didn't have any answers, whether it was them speeding us up or us getting disrupted," head coach Stan Heath said. "I just thought we were a little bit in awe. You can't play the jerseys, you have to play the guys inside the jerseys, and we were just kind of mesmerized."
Freshman Chris Perry was the lone Bull in double figures with 10 points in a game that saw USF never get into a rhythm on offense. Louisville (17-3, 6-1) scored 35 points off 23 USF turnovers while the Bulls went 16-for-44 from the field.
"We have to be a team that's going to fight and give a lot more resistance than we did tonight," Heath said. "I was encouraged after the Cincinnati game and really disappointed with how we performed today."
Montrezl Harrell scored 14 points and added a game-high 10 rebounds for Louisville, but the Bulls finished with a 31-30 edge on the glass thanks in part to a nine-rebound performance by freshman John Egbunu.
USF (10-9, 1-5) knows it must turn the page quickly to stop a three-game losing streak in the league. The Bulls will hit the road to face No. 23/22 Memphis 2 p.m. Sunday and they'll be looking to avenge an 88-73 loss to the Tigers on New Year's Eve.
"I think the good thing about this is we have faced Memphis before. At least now they know this is how Memphis beat us," Heath said. "We can show them our film and show them the things they did against us and try to make those corrections and improvements."
Victor Rudd is now 16 points away from reaching the 1,000-point mark as a Bull after scoring six points against Louisville and the senior forward said USF must be ready to bounce back in the team's third straight game against a top-25 opponent.
"We want to come back and redeem ourselves," Rudd said. "It's going to be hard to do it in Memphis, but we have to go out there and play and we want to get a win."
After Memphis, the Bulls will head back to the Sun Dome for a rematch with SMU on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. Purchase tickets for the game HERE and stay updated on the Bulls all season long by following the team on Twitter @USFMBB.
