TAMPA, OCT. 17, 2014 – Senior right side hitter Bree Scarbrough continued her hot play of late, but the University of South Florida volleyball team couldn't stop their losing skid Friday night.
Scarbrough hit .333 with 14 kills and six blocks, but the Bulls (8-11 overall, 2-5 The American) came up short in a back-and-forth five-set match at Cincinnati, winning handily in the second and third sets, but failing to close out the Bearcats' defense in the 17-25, 25-19, 25-10, 17-25, 11-15 loss.
The Bulls committed just five hitting errors combined in the second and third sets, hitting .353 in the sets they won, but struggling through a .056 hitting efficiency in the other three sets.
Junior Natalia Soares racked up 41 assists in a one-setter offense, connecting well with freshman Priscilla Ehieze, who knocked down a career-best 11 kills while hitting a team-high .381. Defensively, junior Erin Fairs led the Bulls with 21 digs, while collecting 15 kills as well. Sophomore libero Amy Van Sant added 12 digs in the loss.
