Bulls Fall to Tulsa as Mendoza Records Career Best

TAMPA, NOV. 16, 2014 – The University of South Florida volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Tulsa Sunday afternoon in the Corral. The loss puts the Bulls at 11-17 overall and 5-11 in The American while the Golden Hurricane improved to 19-8, 11-5 in conference play.

Erin Fairs played a pivotal role on the court as she registered her 18th double-double of the season, slugging 12 kills with 13 digs. Alex Mendoza set the offense for the squad with 27 assists, a career best she's earned in the last three matches.

The Bulls showed promise in the first set, attacking at .375 as a team, but the Golden Hurricane proved their worth fighting back for a 26-24 win. Joli Holland went four-for-five in the second set despite Tulsa's Valerie El Houssine slamming 13 kills in the match, giving the Golden Hurricane the 25-17 decision.

The final frame was defensive battle with both squads registering 20 or more digs. Alexus Heidelberg notched eight for USF as Tulsa took the set 25-19.

USF faces Houston on Nov. 21, and Tulane on Nov. 23, for its final road trip of American Athletic Conference play.
