TAMPA, NOV. 28, 2014 – It was only fitting that on Senior Day, senior Jennica Mullins earned the final kill of set five to give the USF volleyball team the 3-2 win over Cincinnati Friday afternoon at the Corral. The Bulls concluded the season with an overall record of 14-18, 8-12 in the American Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Bearcats to a season ending 15-17 record and 7-13 in conference play.
Dakota Hampton and Erin Fairs paved the way for both the Bulls' offense and defense as they each recorded double-doubles. Hampton finished with 15 kills and 13 digs, while Fairs notched 14 kills and 20 digs. Wylie Devlin notched an additional 20 digs, nearly missing her match high of 21 at UConn earlier this season. Mullins attached at a .368 clip for the set with seven total blocks preventing Cincinnati from taking the win.
Cincinnati's offense was evenly split among four Bearcats with Morgan Allred, Emma Roberson, Me'Ashah Nocholson, and Ciara Hill all recording double-digit kills. Morgan posted a double-double for the squad with 11 digs.
The back-and-forth match started early as the Bulls narrowly missed the first set victory despite Hampton's five kills. Cincinnati, attacking at a .429 clip for the set, took set one with a 25-19 win.
The Bulls held the Bearcats to a .081 attacking percentage in the set two, overcoming an early deficit to win 25-16. Seniors Mullins and Bree Scarbrough shared a block, recording two and three kills respectively.
Cincinnati came back in the third frame, posting a 25-19 decision as Roberson tallied five kills. USF's valiant efforts propelled them to a 25-19 victory, forcing a fifth set. Fairs slammed five kills in the fourth, attacking at .714 percentage for the set.
After a 3-2 deficit to start the final set the Bulls exploded for a 15-6 win, going on a 10-1 run to close out the set and the match.
