STORRS, CONN. (Nov. 9, 2014) – Great blocking and a balanced attack led the USF volleyball team to its fifth conference win of the year Sunday.

The Bulls (11-15 overall, 5-9 The American) looked sharp on the road, out-blocking UConn 11-4 and out-hitting the Huskies .256-.167 to pull out a four-set win in Connecticut, 25-19, 24-26, 28-26, 25-19.

Seniors Jennica Mullins and Bree Scarbrough disrupted the UConn offense throughout the match, combining for 16 block assists and a solo block to hold the Huskies below a .200 hitting percentage in all but one set, helping USF to its second win against the Huskies this season.

Scarbrough started out hot in the first set, posting three kills and four blocks, including a set-winner as the Bulls rallied from behind 17-15 to end the set on a 10-2 run. All four Scarbrough blocks came in the final 12 points, as she and Mullins teamed up for three consecutive blocks to send USF to a 25-19 win.

Another Mullins/Scarbrough block put USF in position to grab a commanding 2-0 match lead late in the second set, putting the Bulls up 23-22. Instead, the Huskies took their turn to rally, scoring four of the final five points to even the match at one set apiece with a 26-24 win.

Freshman right side hitter Priscilla Ehieze came alive in the third, pounding out five kills on eight errorless swings out of the break to help ignite USF's offense. Junior Erin Fairs added four kills without a mistake in the set as well, sending USF to a .289 attack percentage as the set went into extra points.

Down 25-26, sophomore Alexus Heidelberg posted her first kill of the set to tie things up, then served up an ace to put the Bulls in the lead. Once again Mullins and Scarbrough teamed up for a block, ending the set with a 28-26 win.

After 14 ties and five lead changes in the third set, USF would take the lead early in the fourth and never look back. The Bulls committed just two errors in the set as Fairs knocked down seven of her team-high 16 kills to send USF back to Tampa with a win over UConn.

Fairs recorded her 18th double-double of the season, adding 14 digs to go with her 16 kills. Scarbrough nearly added her first double-double, collecting 10 kills and eight blocks for the Bulls.

Mullins tied a USF career high with nine blocks to compliment seven kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Heidelberg's 7 kills were overshadowed by a career-high 16 digs. Defensively, junior Wylie Devlin contributed a team-high 21 digs.

The Bulls return home this Friday night, hosting SMU at 7 p.m. in The Corral.
