NEW YORK, FEB. 8, 2014 – USF finished up the USTFCCA's Division I National Meet of the Week with standout performances from a group of Bulls at The Armory Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
Matthew O'Neal set a new USF indoor record with a triple jump leap of 51-5.75 that placed the sophomore in second in the championship division at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory. Shane Lewis (Orlando) finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 50-3.50.
The Bulls also got a second-place finish from senior Wyatt Metzger (Orlando) in the men's pole vault college division with a mark of 16-2.75 that ranks in a tie for fourth in program history. Metzger also owns the school's third-best mark of 16-4.75 he set last indoor season. Not far behind Metzger was sophomore Winston Perry, who placed fourth with a mark of 15-11.
All-American high jumper Courtney Anderson also did well against tough competition in her season debut by placing fourth in the championship division with a leap of 5-9.25 that ranks in a tie for second all-time at USF. The senior from Cape Coral, Fla., owns the program's top mark of 5-11.25 she accomplished last season.
The meet marked the first of two trips to The Armory for USF this season. The Bulls will return to the venue to compete in the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 28-March 1.
USF will tune up for the conference meet Friday, Feb. 14 at the Cupid Classic in Birmingham, Ala. Stay updated on the Bulls all season long by following the team on Twitter @USFTrack.
