Morekhodova, Scarbrough Impressive in Bulls' Win

AUBURN, ALA., SEPT. 13, 2014 - A pair of mid-match lineup tweaks and an improved offensive output sent the USF volleyball team back into the win column Saturday morning. Upperclassmen Olga Morekhodova and Bree Scarbrough made their mid-match appearances count, racking up big numbers and helping to jumpstart the Bulls' offense as USF overcame a first-set loss to top Troy in four sets, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-17. Seeing extensive playing time for the first time this season Morekhodova made the most of it, scooping up 11 digs and 23 assists, connecting well with Scarbrough, who put down nine kills in just 15 swings for USF. Scarbrough combined with sophomore Alexus Heidelberg to hold down the right side, as the duo posted 17 kills with just three errors in the match, in addition to Scarbrough's team-high seven blocks. After a slow first set, the Bulls picked up the pace in the second. USF pounded out 17 kills in the second, getting four kills each from Scarbrough and sophomore Dakota Hampton to even the match at one set apiece. The Bulls found a groove from that point forward, coasting through the third and fourth sets, hitting .385 with 31 kills to top Troy in four. The Bulls got another five kills from Hampton in the third set, as the sophomore led USF's offense with 15 kills. Freshman Adyson Goodnight looked impressive in the fourth set, leading USF with four kills in just four swings. Junior outside hitter Erin Fairs collected a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore libero Amy Van Sant added a team-high 14 digs in the win. USF faces Auburn tonight at 8:30 in the final match of the tournament. |
