Murfreesboro, Tenn. (SEPT. 5, 2014) – Offense was the name of the game as the USF women's soccer team (2-2-1) dominated the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders (1-2-1) on Friday night. Seven corner kicks, 21 shots and 11 shots-on-goal helped propel the Bulls to a 3-0 rout of MTSU. The Bulls controlled the tempo of the match during the first half, combining for seven shots and one shot on goal by Diana Saenz. Despite the pressure USF put on the Middle Tennessee defense, the game was scoreless entering halftime. The USF offense shined even brighter in the second half as sophomore Leticia Skeete found the back of the net in the 48th minute. The Bulls continued to pound the MTSU goalkeeper as they recorded five shots in the span of two minutes. After assisting on the first goal, junior Kate Loye recorded a goal of her own on a bobbled chip shot in the 56th minute. An assist by freshman Payton Cook allowed junior Olivia Chance to add an extra insurance goal, putting the Bulls up 3-0. USF created other opportunities to increase the lead but wouldn't need them as the defense shut down MTSU, keeping the Blue Raiders scoreless. The shutout was the second straight for freshman goalkeeper Thordis Aikman, who ended the night with four saves. Chance led the team with six shots for the night, including four on goal. Ten different Bulls recorded shots and seven notched a shot-on-goal. USF will look to extend its winning streak to three when the Bulls take on Kennesaw State on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. Follow @USFSoccer on Twitter for more information about the women's soccer program. The USF women's soccer team has posted two consecutive 10-plus win seasons and three in the last four years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance and recorded their first tournament victory in 2010. USF returns 23 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference second team forward Demi Stokes and All-Rookie Team defender Leticia Skeete. They also bring back 11 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
