CINCINNATI, Ohio, OCT. 11, 2015 – USF's volleyball team fell to Cincinnati 3-1 (26-24, 16-25, 25-22, 25-23) Sunday at Fifth Third Arena.
Juniors Elyse Panick and Dakota Hampton led the Bulls (6-12, 3-3 The American) with 13 kills each. Hampton added 14 digs for her third-straight double-double.
Freshman Molly Burkhardt and sophomore Alex Mendoza each recorded 22 assists and Wylie Devlin led the Bulls with 28 digs for the Bulls.
USF trailed 15-8 early in the first set before mounting a comeback to tie it 23-23. The Bulls were never able to take a lead as the Bearcats (11-6, 3-3 The American) took the set 26-24.
Cincinnati jumped out to another early lead in the second set, 12-5, and never looked back on the way to a 25-16 win.
The third set was all USF as it got out to a 14-8 lead and ended the set with a kill from sophomore Priscilla Ehieze for the 25-22 win.
USF jumped out to another early lead of 18-12 in the fourth set. However, Cincinnati scored eight of the next nine points to go ahead 20-19. A block by Hampton gave USF a 22-20 lead, but UC ended the match on a 5-1 run to win the final set 25-23.
USF will return home next weekend as it hosts Tulsa at 7 p.m. on Friday and SMU at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
