BIRMINGHAM (Oct. 31, 2016) – Three Bulls had the opportunity to compete at a professional level tournament this weekend, competing at the Birmingham Futures in Birmingham, Ala. Alberto Barroso, Sasha Gozun, and Justin Roberts all competed in the qualifying round, with Gozun advancing to the final round and a chance at the main draw.
Justin Roberts and Alberto Barroso were both seeded in the qualification draw but fell in the second round to Vasilly Kichigin from Russia and Nicolas Rouanet from France, respectively.
Sasha Gozun reached the finals of the qualification draw cruising through the first three rounds. In the third round, Sasha beat Albert Wagner from Germany, 6-4, 6-3, to secure a spot in the final qualifying round. Sasha will face Nicolas Rouanet from France tomorrow for a ticket into the main draw.
Head coach Ashley Fisher's goal is for every player of his to become a professional tennis player and the Bulls will have opportunities to compete in three professional tournaments this fall.
“We want to help our players to fulfill their dreams of reaching the top of professional tennis,” Fisher said. “We feel that we have to help them build their professional ranking before they graduate, so they have a chance on the tour.”
