Evelyne Viens Named Conference Rookie of the Year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Nov. 1, 2016)— Four USF women's soccer players earned all-conference honors, highlighted by American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year, Evelyne Viens.
Viens was a first team all-conference selection and was joined on the all-rookie team by fellow freshman Andrea Hauksdottir. Hauksdottir was a second team all-conference selection as well, joined by seniors Jordyn Listro and Trudi Carter. Viens is the third player to earn a major conference award and the second freshman. In 2016, Jackie Simpson was named the defensive player of the year and in 1998 Tia Opliger was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year.
Viens led the Bulls with 16 goals, four assists and 36 points on the season. The Quebec native tied the school record for goals in a season and is just seven points from the single-season points record. Viens had three game-winning goals, was a perfect 2-for-2 on penalty kicks and had six multi-goal games. She recorded the 10th hat trick in USF history and the first in ten years.
Hauksdottir had a breakout freshman season, finishing second on the team with five goals and starting every game this season. The Icelandic native also finished second in points with 12 and third with two assists. She boasted a .625 shot-on-goal percentage and had two game-winning goals on the year.
Listo received her first conference honor with her second-team selection. An anchor in the midfield, the senior set the school record for games played with 80 career games. She tallied two assists on the year and started every game for the Bulls. The Toronto native helped USF to six shutouts and limited opponents to just 11.4 shots per game.
Carter also received her first conference honor with a second-team selection. The senior from Kingston, Jamaica netted two goals by converting a pair of penalty kicks, including one game winner. Carter tallied eight points and four assists on the year. She started all 17 games for the Bulls this season.
Viens, Hauksdottir, Listro, Carter and the rest of the Bulls take the field Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. in the first round of the conference tournament. The fourth-seeded Bulls will take on the fifth-seeded Cincinnati Bearcats on the American Digital Network.
