GAINESVILLE (Feb. 6, 2016) – In a rain delayed match against NO. 4 USC, the Bulls battled hard, but fell 6-1 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville Saturday afternoon.
Led by their top ranked doubles tandem, the Trojans of USC came out hot to secure the first point of the match. During the first set of singles play, rain came through the area and forced a 30-minute delay in action and moved play indoors.
In the No. 5 spot, USF freshman Vanja Klaric (Serbia) secured the lone point for the Bulls. Klaric jumped out to an early 6-5 lead in the first set before her opponent retired. The win moves Klaric to 2-0 in singles play this season.
The Bulls (1-3) received another strong performance from freshman Ana Roman Dominguez (Spain) in the No. 2 spot. In the only three set match of the afternoon, Dominguez dominated the first set but eventually fell 6-2, 4-6, 0-6.
USC (3-1) was able to control the remainder of the match as they received wins from all four of their ranked singles players.
The Bulls continue their 2016 season next Saturday Feb. 13, as they travel to Champaign, Ill. to take on No. 53 Illinois.
