PALM CITY, Fla., MARCH 22, 2016 – Chase Koepka led the No. 13/17 Bulls for the second consecutive time with a top-15 performance at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
Koepka tied for 12th place at 3-over, carding four birdies during his 1-under 70 in the final round at Floridian Golf Club (par-71, 6,999 yards). The senior from West Palm Beach opened with a 73 in the first and second rounds following his title victory at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular on March 13.
USF (+27) finish outside of the top five for the first time in four events this spring, placing eighth out of 15 programs. The Bulls posted a 10-over 294 in the final round and finished five shots away from fifth place. No. 8 Texas (+3) won the event and was followed in the top five by No. 22 LSU (+8), No. 29 Texas A&M (+19), No. 13 Oklahoma State (+19), No. 18 South Carolina (+22) and No. 3 Illinois (+22).
“I'm pretty disappointed in our performance today,” head coach Steve Bradley said. “With a solid round we could have moved into the top three, instead we went backwards. With a field this strong, you can't afford to make mistakes and beat yourself.”
Aksel Olsen tied for 20th place out of 83 players in his return to the lineup. The senior from Norway posted a score of 5-over (69-74-75) in his sixth top-25 performance in seven events this season.
Claudio Correa and Cristian DiMarco finished three shots outside of the top 25 in a tie for 45th place at 10-over. Rigel Fernandes tied for 65th place at 17-over.
USF has two more events before the American Athletic Conference Championship and returns to the course at the 3M Augusta Invitational on April 2 in Georgia. Stay updated on the team by following the Bulls on Twitter @USFMensGolf.
