
No. 25 Bulls Show Strength Against Louisville

Fort Myers, Fla. (Jan. 13, 2017) – The No. 25 ranked USF men's tennis team began the 2017 season with a trip south to Florida Gulf Coast where they posted six singles and two doubles victories against Louisville.
In singles competition, veteran player Sasha Gozun saw Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff in a tight first set, 6-5, but brought the match to a quick end in the second with a 6-3 victory. Peter Bertran, ranked no. 77, followed suit and defeated Nicolas Rouanet in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
The Bulls kept rolling with wins, as junior Justin Roberts stepped onto the court. In his first set against Parker Wynn, the set went into a tiebreak with Roberts coming out on top. In the second set Roberts struggled to find his rhythm and dropped the set 1-6. However, he came back with a solid 6-4 victory to continue the precedent of winning.
Newcomers Alberto Barroso-Campos, Pierre Luquet and Nils Heimer all picked up wins during their spring debut. They defeated Sean Donohue, (6-2, 6-4), George Hedley (7-5, 6-2) and Santiago Salazar (7-6, 4-6, 7-6), respectively.
Vadym Kalyuzhnyy faced Brandon Lancaster, falling 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.
In doubles competition, the Bulls won two out of three matches. USF's Bertran and Roberts defeated Morin-Kougoucheff and Hedly 6-4, and newcomers Heimer and Luquet showed their strength and potential with a 6-1 victory over Rouanet and Fredrik Moe. Seniors Gozun and Kalyuzhnyy forced Donohue and Wynn into a tiebreak set, ultimately falling, 7-6 (7-3).
