Bulls quarterback among national standouts to be presented
the 2017 Player To Watch award by organization
TAMPA, JAN. 30, 2017 – USF rising senior quarter Quinton Flowers (Miami) will be among numerous national college football standouts honored at the 62nd Annual Touchdown Club of Columbus Awards on Feb. 4 in Columbus, Ohio.
The annual banquet, held at Express Live in Columbus, will honor standout high school and collegiate players and coaches from the 2016 football season as well as players projected to be national standouts in 2017.
Flowers was among several players selected to receive the Touchdown Club's 2017 Player to Watch Award. The USF quarterback finished his junior season ranked third in ESPN's Total QBR ratings (86.5) behind only USC's Sam Darnold and Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield. Mayfield will also be on hand at the banquet to receive the 2016 Kellen Moore Award as the nation's top quarterback.
The American Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Flowers set USF records for total yards (4,437), rushing yards (1,530), rushing TD (18), passing TD (24) and total TD. He led a USF offense that shattered school records and ranked fourth in the nation in scoring (43.8) and 11th in total offense (511.5) while posting a school-record 11 wins and a Top 25 national ranking.
Among the confirmed 2017 Player to Watch honorees attending the Feb. 4 event will be: Riley Ferguson (QB, Memphis), Nick Fitzgerald (QB, Mississippi State), Deondre Francois (QB, Florida State), Khalil Hodge (LB, Buffalo), Micah Kiser (LB, Virginia), Ray Lawry (RB, Old Dominion), Anthony Miller (WR, Memphis), Mason Rudolph (QB, Oklahoma State), Mike Weber (RB, Ohio State), Mike White (QB, Western Kentucky), Cedrick Wilson (WR, Boise State) and Logan Woodside (QB, Toledo).
Among the other 2016 Touchdown Club season awards presented at the banquet will be: Chic Harley Award for college football player of the year (Deshaun Watson, Clemson), Archie Griffin Award for college football most valuable player (Sam Darnold, USC), Woody Hayes Award for college football coach of the year (James Franklin, Penn State), Jim Brown Award for top running back (Donnel Pumphrey, San Diego State), Ozzie Newsome Award for top tight end (Evan Engram, Ole Miss), Paul Warfield Award for top wide receiver (Corey Davis, Western Michigan), Bill Willis Award for top defensive lineman (Ed Oliver, Houston), Jack Lambert Award for top linebacker (Ben Boulware, Clemson), Jack Tatum Award for top defensive back (Tarvarus McFadden, Florida State), Freshman of the Year (Jalen Hurts, Alabama).
Season ticket deposits for the 2017 season start at $50 per seat and can be placed at USFBullsTix.com. The Bulls will play seven home games in Raymond James Stadium in 2017, hosting notable games vs. Illinois, Houston, Temple, Tulsa and Cincinnati.
USF finished the 2016 season with a school record 11 wins following the program's fifth-ever bowl victory in the Birmingham Bowl. The Bulls' 11-2 record marked the fifth-best winning percentage in FBS football in 2016 and one of just 11 teams to reach 11 wins. USF set nearly 40 team and individual records in 2016, including team records for total yards (6,650), rushing yards (3,714), touchdowns (77) and scoring (569). Junior quarterback Quinton Flowers was named the American Conference Offensive Player of the Year and led a school-record 10 players named to the all-conference team, six of which, including Flowers, will return in 2017.
