USF Draws Memphis, 1-1, on the Road

TAMPA (Oct. 21, 2017) — The USF men's soccer team drew Memphis, 1-1, on Sunday in its first tie with a conference opponent this season.
 
The Bulls scored early, notching the game's first goal in just the eighth minute, when freshman Josue Monge (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded his second career goal. Senior Bradley Farias (Indiantown, Fla.) dropped the ball off for Monge's shot to the upper right corner, giving USF the 1-0 advantage.
 
Memphis would tie it up in the first half with a sliding shot in the 40th minute, before both teams spent the remainder of the game scoreless.
 
Senior Ricardo Gomez (Gainesville, Fla.) sent in a shot in the final minute of regulation, but the attempt sailed high, sending the match into overtime. In the 93rd minute, the Bulls shot the would-be game winner just as the offside flag was raised.

7 – Keeper Christian Knight (Odessa, Fla.) had seven saves with 110 minutes in goal.

A member of the University of Tampa's 1981 national championship team and a three-time conference coach of the year, Butehorn previously led Florida Gulf Coast University's men's soccer program to six conference regular season championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and Top 25 rankings in five seasons since 2010.
 
The Bulls concluded the season as The American regular season champions and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Bulls finished the season with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
