TAMPA, Nov. 12, 2017 – The University of South Florida volleyball team honored its five-member senior class Sunday afternoon before and after the match with a four-set win against Tulane (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20).
The Bulls (11-15, 6-10 The American) used a 7-2 run with the score tied 18-18 to close out the opening set. USF trailed by as much as eight in the second set, 20-12. But the Bulls began to cut into the Green Wave (13-16, 2-14 The American) lead thanks to five kills from junior
Reagan Davey (Ocala, Fla.) during a 9-2 run. Tulane tallied the final three points to win the set, 25-21.
Freshman
Doris Carter (Lexington, Ky.) had the first three kills for the Bulls in the third set, as they led by no fewer than two until late in the frame. Leading 23-22, Carter's sixth kill of the set and a
Clara Payne (Osteen, Fla.) kill gave USF a 25-23 win.
The score was knotted at 10-10 in the fourth set until a 7-2 USF run gave it a five-point advantage. Tulane got to within two at 21-19, but three-straight kills from Carter and a kill from Payne finished off the set and gave the Bulls a win on Senior Day.
NOTABLES
- Carter tallied a match-high 19 kills, the second-most of her career. She hit .361 and statted her firs double-double with 19 digs.
- Davey recorded 13 kills and hit .355.
- Senior Priscilla Ehieze (Houston) had eight kills and senior setter Alex Mendoza (Minneola, Fla.) had 28 assists and 10 digs for her 30th career double-double.
- Junior setter Briana Stowell (Orlando) tallied 24 assists and eight digs while adding three service aces.
- The Bulls totaled 61 kills, the second-most of the season. USF hit .320, its third-highest percentage of the season.

The Bulls will head north for their final road weekend with matches at UConn Nov. 17 and Temple Nov. 19.
About USF Volleyball
In addition to 10 newcomers, USF returns a large core of talent for 2017, led by senior setter Alex Mendoza, who surpassed the 2,000 assist total in 2016 and posted a team-high 1,125 helpers. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Clara Payne finished second on the team with 340 points and senior middle blocker Joli Holland finished fourth with 251.5 points. The Bulls are guided by sixth-year head coach Courtney Draper.
