TAMPA, Nov. 21, 2017 – The University of South Florida volleyball team heads 100 miles east for a battle with rival UCF, as the War on I-4 picks back up Wednesday night on the American Digital Network.  
 
Head coach Courtney Draper earned her 250th career victory Friday afternoon when the Bulls (12-16, 7-11 The American) defeated UConn in four sets on the road. Senior outside hitter Priscilla Ehieze (Houston) had 22 kills during USF's final road weekend while hitting at a clip of .353. Senior middle blocker Joli Holland (Dublin, Calif.) had a strong weekend with 17 kills, four digs, six blocks and a .350 hitting percentage in the two matches.
 
USF continued to utilize both of its setters and each played exceptionally well. Senior Alex Mendoza (Minneola, Fla.) tallied 19 assists and nine digs against UConn and followed with 26 assists and six digs at Temple on Sunday. She moved into fourth place on the program's all-time assist list with 3,103. Junior Briana Stowell (Orlando) had an identical outing against the Huskies with 19 assists and nine digs, then recorded 27 assists and six digs against the Owls.
 
THE OPPONENT

UCF: The Knights (17-13, 10-8 The American) lead the league with 1,530 team kills thanks to redshirt-senior outside hitter Kia Bright, who sits third in The American with 444 kills. Freshman outside hitter Kristina Fisher follows with 325 kills on the year. UCF also leads the league with 263 team blocks, as redshirt-senior middle blocker Taylor Wickey sits fourth in the conference with 122 of those blocks.

NOTABLES
  • The Bulls are fourth in The American with 1.21 aces per set and fifth with 16.60 digs per set.
  • Standout freshman Doris Carter (Lexington, Ky.) leads USF with 233 kills on the year. She is third among league rookies with 2.64 kills per set.
  • Redshirt-junior Clara Payne (Osteen, Fla.), junior Reagan Davey (Ocala, Fla.) and Ehieze are all tied for second on the team with 217 kills each.
  • Payne remains the team leader with 96 blocks and a .292 hitting percentage, good for seventh in The American.
  • Holland ranks seventh during conference play with a .293 hitting percentage.   
  • The Bulls lead the all-time series with the Knights, 50-33.
About USF Volleyball
In addition to 10 newcomers, USF returns a large core of talent for 2017, led by senior setter Alex Mendoza, who surpassed the 2,000 assist total in 2016 and posted a team-high 1,125 helpers. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Clara Payne finished second on the team with 340 points and senior middle blocker Joli Holland finished fourth with 251.5 points. The Bulls are guided by sixth-year head coach Courtney Draper.
