Bulls Battle in Close Defeat at UCF Wednesday
War On I-4
ORLANDO, Nov. 22, 2017 – The University of South Florida volleyball team battled in the first of this week's War On I-4 series, falling in a closely contested three sets Wednesday night in Orlando (25-27, 20-25, 23-25).  Â
The Bulls (12-17, 7-12 The American) used a 9-0 run in the opening set to take a 10-5 lead. The margin extended to as much as seven, 17-10, before the Knights (18-13, 11-8 The American) began to cut into the deficit. The score would be knotted up five times, but UCF was able to win the set, 27-25.

After the Knights went up 2-0, the Bulls came back from a 9-4 deficit to tie the third set 12-12. A 4-0 USF run turned the lead into its favor, 16-13. UCF then retook the advantage, 23-19, before three-straight points from the Bulls cut the margin to one. After a

- Both the Bulls and Knights recorded 48 kills and 45 assists.
- Redshirt-middle blocker Clara Payne (Osteen, Fla.) finished with nine kills on a .391 hitting percentage and had three blocks.
- Davey tallied a team-best 15 kills, while adding five digs and two blocks.

About USF Volleyball
In addition to 10 newcomers, USF returns a large core of talent for 2017, led by senior setter Alex Mendoza, who surpassed the 2,000 assist total in 2016 and posted a team-high 1,125 helpers. Redshirt-junior middle blocker Clara Payne finished second on the team with 340 points and senior middle blocker Joli Holland finished fourth with 251.5 points. The Bulls are guided by sixth-year head coach Courtney Draper.
