USF Baseball Summer League Update
TAMPA, JULY 3, 2017 – David Villar (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) extended his hitting streak to seven games and
Carson Ragsdale (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) continued to impress, as summer league action for those representing the University of South Florida baseball team completed the month June.
Northwoods League Update
David Villar hit .304 in six games for the La Crosse Loggers last week with four runs, two doubles and a RBI. He extended his hit streak to seven games and is batting .357.
Sophomore
Joe Genord (Lake Worth, Fla.) hit a pair of homers and a double with three RBI and five runs scored in eight games last week. He leads the Waterlook Bucks with six home runs this summer.
Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches Update
Ragsdale continued to dominate for the Juno Beach Loggerheads. He improved on his league-best average and is now hitting .433 after hitting .500 (5-for-10) in three games last week. He scored two runs and drove in five runs with his third homer, a double and a triple.
On the bump, he logged 2.0 scoreless innings and got the win on June 29. His ERA is now at 1.13.
New England Collegiate Baseball League Update
Cameron Montgomery (Windermere, Fla.) tallied three hits for the Danbury Westerners last week. He hit his first double of the summer and drove in his first run on Sunday.
Matt Sellers (Vero Beach, Fla.) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings for the Westerners on June 30, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
Coastal Plain League Update
Chris Chatfield (Riverview, Fla.) tallied a pair of hits in five games last week for the Forest City Owls with three runs scored and five RBI. He went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI on June 27 and hit a two-run homer on July 1, his third of the summer.
About USF Baseball
The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. The Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals in 2015 for the first time in 13 years and followed that success with a 42-19 record and second NCAA regional trip in three years in 2017. The Bulls earned just their second and third wins over top-five ranked teams with victories against then-No. 3 Florida State and at then-No. 5 Florida during the 2017 season. During the 2017 season, USF reached the 40-win mark for the first time since 1996 and entered the top-25 in the major collegiate baseball polls for the first time since 2013. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 12 NCAA appearances.
