TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Aug. 24, 2017) — The University of South Florida women's soccer team defeated Alabama, 2-1, with a golden goal by senior defender
Grace Adams (Accra, Ghana) in the 94
th minute on Thursday night.
The Bulls trailed early, but in the final seconds of the first half, senior goalkeeper Kat Stratton (Tupelo, Miss.) tackled sophomore
Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.), as she soared into the box trying for her first shot of the night. Sophomore midfielder
Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavagur, Iceland) took the opportunity to convert a penalty kick low and to the left, scoring USF's first goal of the match, and tying the Crimson Tide, 1-1.
The second half would leave the teams deadlocked, sending USF and Alabama into overtime. Adams, who scored two overtime goals for USF in 2016, didn't wait long before handling a pass from sophomore
Evelyne Viens (L'ancienne-Lorette, Canada) inside the six-yard box, scoring the winning goal.
Alabama got an early advantage when Casey Wertz (Marietta, Ga.) headed in her first-career goal off a corner from Emma Welch (McDonough, Ga.) in the seventh minute.

The USF women's soccer team has posted five consecutive seasons of 10-plus wins and six in the last seven years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. Schilte-Brown reached her 100th win with USF last season, and will begin her eleventh season as head coach in 2017. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014 & 2015.
