Butehorn Announces First 2018 Signee
TAMPA, JAN. 9, 2018 –  The University of South Florida men's soccer team added its first piece to the 2018 team that looks to return to the American Athletic Conference Championship. Head coach
Bob Butehorn and his staff announced the addition of Florida standout Marcus Murphy.

Bob Butehorn. "Marcus played for a great club in Florida and we look forward to developing his career over the next four years."

Murphy, a 6-0 defender, played for Clay County Soccer Club for 12 years and boasts a Florida state championship with Fleming Island High School. Murphy, a former camper
Bob Butehorn's USF Success in Soccer Camps, was a part of the Clay County Soccer team coached by Matt Hollyoak. Â The USA Rangers Red went undefeated at the 2017 Disney Boys Soccer Showcase, and were the B17 Champion.

The Fleming Island native was a four-time team captain for his high school squad and earned three varsity letters. As a senior, Murphy totaled six goals and 12 assists through half a season and led his team to a state championship as a junior. In his junior season, Murphy turned in 17 goals and 27 assists.

As a sophomore, Murphy was named to the Olympic Development Program Region 3 team and was invited to the National Team Pool tryouts.

Murphy will study Civil Engineering at USF and was a member of the high school National Honor Society and maintained a 3.5 GPA.

The Bulls concluded the 2017 regular season with a 6-6-4 overall record and finished fifth in the American Athletic Conference with a 3-2-2 mark.Â
