Bulls Fall 3-2 to FIU in Double Overtime Heartbreaker

MIAMI, Oct. 23, 2018- Despite leading in the second half, the USF men's soccer team fell 3-2 to FIU in double overtime in the midweek heartbreaker.

It was a night of firsts for the Bulls as Gordon Phipps and Diego Guerrero scored their first career goals on the night. The Bulls found themselves down a goal in the 14thminute when FIU's Jacques Bouvery slotted in a goal from teammate Inigo Sagarduy. In a prime opportunity to step up, freshman Gordon Phipps who hails from southeast Florida (Weston, Fla.), slotted in a perfectly placed free kick from Alex Zis (Oakville, Canada) for his first career goal.

The equalizer carried the Bulls until the second half when Guerrero (San Salvador, El Salvador) solo maneuvered around four defenders and placed a goal to give the Bulls a lead in the 74thminute. Unfortunately for USF, just five minutes later, Errol Spence answered with the second equalizing goal of the night and USF and FIU were tied 2-2.

In the 82ndminute, red cards were issued to USF's Henrique Gallina (Atibaia, Brazil) and FIU's Kimani Simons, leaving both teams to play with 10 men apiece for the rest of the match. USF got off eight shots in the second half, but could not find the back of the net in overtime before FIU's Joris Ahlinvi scored in the 107thminute to seal the 3-2 match.
