TAMPA, OCTOBER 5, 2018 – The USF volleyball team dropped just its fourth match of the season with a four-set loss to Wichita St. Friday in the Corral. (16-25, 25-21, 17-25, 21-25).
The Bulls (13-4, 2-2 The American) were led by junior
Jac'cara Walker (Gainesville, Fla.), who had 13 kills and 15 digs. Senior setter
Briana Stowell (Orlando) had 20 assists and 11 digs.
The Shockers (8-7, 3-1 The American) led for the entirety of the opening set, riding a 4-0 lead to open the match. USF grabbed a 3-0 early lead in the second, then battled for most of the frame. Tied 19-19, the Bulls closed the set on a 5-2 run and won 25-21. The third set was knotted at 9-9, before Wichita St. went on a 10-0 run to take control. USF trailed by no fewer than three in the fourth set before falling.
Notables
- Redshirt senior Clara Payne (Osteen, Fla.) had nine kills hitting .389 with six blocks.
- The Bulls had 18 blocks on the night.
- Freshman setter Lauren LaBeck (Chicago) had 14 assists, her third-straight match with double-digit assists.
- Sophomore Nikkia Benitez (Miami) finished with nine kills and 12 digs.

Led by redshirt senior middle blocker Clara Payne, who paced the team with 300 points and finished seventh in The American with a .290 hitting percentage, USF and seventh-year head coach Courtney Draper are excited for 2018. Senior setter Briana Stowell finished second on the team in 2017 with 243 assists and averaged 22.3 per match in the final month of the year. The Bulls are welcoming six new faces to the roster, with five talented freshmen and a skilled outside hitter coming from Marshall University.
