USF Faces Ohio Friday in Jamaica Classic

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA NOV. 15, 2018 – The USF men's basketball team looks for its third consecutive victory Friday at 4:30 p.m. when the Bulls face Ohio in the second round of the Jamaica Classic from the Montego Bay Convention Center.
USF (2-0) enters the matchup with Ohio coming off a 74-70 overtime victory over Austin Peay on Monday.
Laquincy Rideau (West Palm Beach, Fla.) scored 17 points to go along with five steals to lead four Bulls in double figures.
David Collins (Youngstown, Ohio) added 15 points and four steals and
T.J. Lang (Mobile, Ala.) finished with 15 points and hit three 3-pointers.
Mayan Kiir (Bradenton, Fla.) chipped in with a career-high 11 points and six rebounds off the bench.
On Monday, USF took a 72-67 lead with under a minute left in overtime on a free throw from Rideau, but Zach Glotta was fouled on a three-point attempt on the ensuing possession and hit all three shots to cut the lead to two. After two missed free throws by the Bulls and turnovers by both teams, Rideau stepped to the line and made the final two from the charity stripe to extend the lead to four and clinch the victory for USF.
The Bulls finished with 11 steals against the Governors and enter play Friday ranked 19th in the NCAA and second in The American with 11.0 steals per game. Rideau leads USF and stands third in the AAC with 3.0 thefts per game.
THE OPPONENT
Ohio (2-0) posted an 81-73 victory over Campbell on Monday behind 24 points and four rebounds from forward Jason Carter. The Bobcats trailed by six at halftime, but outscored Campbell by14 in the second half to win their second game in a row.
Carter leads Ohio with 20.5 points per game and is shooting 68.4 percent from the field to go along with 8.5 rebounds per game. Teyvion Kirk (15.5 ppg), Ben Vander Plas (15.0 ppg), Jason Preston (11.0 ppg) and Doug Taylor (10.0 ppg) all score in double figures for Ohio. Taylor leads the Bobcats with 10.5 rebounds per game.

- USF and Ohio will be meeting on the hardwood for the third time in history. The teams last met in the third round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
- USF is looking for its first 3-0 start since the 2014-15 season.

About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory. On March 22, 2017, Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history. He previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory brings nearly 250 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship, to Tampa. In his first season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to its first 10-plus win season
since 2013-14.
USF has retired three numbers in its 47-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids and appeared in the NIT eight times.
