Should the Bulls advance out of the quarterfinals, they will face No. 2 SMU in Thursday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal match. The championship match will be Saturday at 7 p.m.
No. 5 Temple and No. 4 UConn will face each other Tuesday night following USF's match. The winner of that game will see No. 1 UCF on Thursday night's second semifinal match. Bulls Set for Second Test with Tigers
The Bulls (7-7-2, 4-1-2 AAC) head into the match following their impressive shutout over Memphis (7-6-4, 2-4-1 AAC) just days ago in Corbett Stadium.
Emilio Ycaza (St. Petersburg, Fla.) scored the game winner, converting a corner kick from
Alex Zis, and
Felipe Baptista (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) scored an insurance goal assisted by
Tomasz Skublak. The 2-0 shutout helped USF to a two-game winning streak headed into its most vital matches of the season.
The Opponent
Memphis comes into the match on a two-game losing streak following the shutout from the Bulls and a 1-2 defeat at the hands of co-conference champion, UCF. The Tigers are led by Chris Mikus who has scored four goals in 14 games played. The Tigers have scored 18 goals on the season. Memphis was known for its tricky defense in the regular season, but the Bulls penetrated the Tigers with 20 shots including eight coming on frame. USF defense only allowed 11 shots on the night and goalkeeper
Harrison Devenish-Meares was only required to save one.
Notable
- USF returns to the AAC Tournament for the first time since 2016, but the 2017 format featured only four teams. This is the first year since 2015 that six teams will participate in the tournament.
- In its last AAC Tournament appearance, USF took a trip to the championship match, but fell in penalty kicks to Tulsa.
- USF has a strong history at the AAC tournament and has qualified to the tournament five of the last six years, and has advanced to the championship game in all but one appearance, in 2015.
