Bulls Set to Sail Into 2018; Host First Event of Spring Season
February 16, 2018 | Women's Sailing
TAMPA, Feb. 16, 2018 – The University of South Florida sailing team is back in action this weekend, hosting the first regatta of the spring at the USF Women's Interconference Saturday and Sunday.
The Bulls had three top-10 finishes in the fall and placed second at the lone event they hosted in late September. Teams from all across the country will be traveling to St. Petersburg this weekend, including the University of Washington, University of California Berkeley, Salve Regina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and NC State. Jacksonville, Eckerd and Miami will also be competing.
NOTABLES
Head coach Allison Jolly on the expectations of the spring's first event:
"We are hoping to have at least enough breeze to get some quality racing underway for this two-day event, the first Interconference Women's event of the Spring 2018 season. Because of that, a team that finishes well should get a boost in their national ranking, which is exactly what we are looking for."
Head coach Allison Jolly on opening the spring at home:
"It's always fun and advantageous to have our season opener also be our one and only home event this spring. There is definitely a home court advantage sailing in the boats that we are used to, and in wind and wave conditions that we see day in and day out. We have placed near the top at this event for years now, and have even won against some strong competition in past."
