Bulls Roll in Singles Play, Defeat Purdue 4-1

INDIAN WELLS, Calif., MARCH 17, 2018 – The USF men's tennis team rolled through singles play to defeat Purdue, 4-1, on Saturday night in the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Tennis Challenge in California.
The Bulls (6-9) dropped the doubles point, but quickly bounced back and rolled through singles play, winning the first four matches in straight sets on courts one through four.
No. 69 Alberto Barroso-Campos (Montijo, Spain) gave the Bulls their first point, defeating No. 67 Gergely Madarasz 6-2, 6-3. Barroso-Campos extended his singles winning streak to six straight matches, making him 10-3 on the season.
Grayson Goldin (Bradenton, Fla.) got the second victory for the Bulls on court number two, defeating Purdue's Maksymilian Raupuk 6-2, 6-4.
Peter Bertran (Santiago, Dominican Republic) got his fourth straight singles victory on court three, defeating Javier Rodriguez 6-4, 6-3.
The clinching point came on court number four behind Jakub Wojcik (Delray Beach, Fla.). Wojcik dispatched Mateo Julio 6-4, 6-4 to give the Bulls their sixth victory of the season.
The final two singles matches were suspended, but Pierre Luquet (Drauignan, France) held a 6-4, 4-3 lead for the Bulls at the time of the suspension.
In doubles play, the Bulls struck first, with their pair of Barroso-Campos and Goldin defeating Purdue's No. 39-ranked pair of Madarasz and Athell Bennett, 6-4. The USF duo has won seven of their last nine completed matches after the victory. The Boilermakers took the next two doubles matches to post their only point of the night.
As a team, the Bulls have now won three of their last four matches, including two of three in a four match trip through California. The California swing wraps up on Sunday.
