Bulls Remain Undefeated in The American, Defeat Memphis 4-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 29, 2018) – Two USF home runs powered the Bulls to a 4-1 win over Memphis Thursday night. USF (26-13, 4-0) remains undefeated in The American.

The Tigers (25-9, 2-2) were first to get on the board with an RBI single down the left field line in the first inning. Junior Mia Fung (Tampa) was quick to find the equalizer with a shot over the fence at left center, her sixth home run of the season.

Senior Astin Donovan powered USF to a 3-run fifth inning with a home run over the left field fence that scored senior Lauren Evans (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) and sophomore AnaMarie Bruni (Schwenksville, Penn.). The pair reached base on a walk and a fielder's choice, respectively.

Freshman Georgina Corrick sent down an impressive 10 batters in her ninth win of the season and walked two.

Quotable
Mia Fung on her thoughts at the plate before her home run…
"Honestly, I was thinking she was trying to jam all of us and trick us and have us chase. The only thing I was telling myself was 'I can hit her, and I know I can hit her.' I just took a breath, relaxed and hit the ball."

Mia Fung on the team's goals moving forward…
"Basically, keep the same game plan. Don't change anything up, there's no point in changing anything up, we're doing good right now. Just stick with what we've got."

Head coach Ken Eriksen on the team's performance…
"I think they were very mature tonight. It's easy to maintain maturity also when you're getting good pitching on the front end of that. Georgina gave up a jam-job base hit for a run in the first inning, she threw the ball well. Our guys answered back. Mia was really flat-lining it at the plate was nice, and for her to get the barrel to the ball and not try to do too much against their pitcher who is pretty darn good, that gives us a spark on the answer back…We're just getting the barrel to the ball right now and seeing it and keeping it as simple as possible."

Head coach Ken Eriksen on Corrick's pitching performance…
"It's amazing the maturity level she is at right now. You have to give her a lot of credit because she went out and played international ball, she's been against some of the best hitters in the world, and for her it's about an art form. She pitches. She doesn't worry about the situations, it's about that pitch. That's uncanny sometimes for an 18-year-old to do that type of stuff, but she has a lot of good self-esteem and she feels very confident with the teammates behind her. Her and coach Moore have been working together really well. You have to give a lot of credit to Macy Cook as well. Macy makes everybody feel comfortable when she's behind the plate, and Morgan Gross does a great job when she's called upon too. We're very fortunate in the catching department."

Key Stat
10 – Corrick struck out 10 batters in her complete 7-inning game.
