Bulls Ready to Kick Off Under Armour Showcase
TAMPA (March 8, 2018) – USF will split its weekend between Tampa and Clearwater, Fla., in the Under Armour Showcase as part of the USF Series. The Bulls will take on Villanova (2:00 p.m.) and Army (4:15 p.m.) on Friday at the USF Softball Stadium, and Iona (2:00 p.m.) and Loyola-Chicago (4:15 p.m.) at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex.
USF opened play this week with a midweek matchup and defeated Seton Hall, 9-0, with a walk-off home run in the fifth inning. Three Bulls had a perfect night at the plate, and junior
Cheyenne Eggens earned her second win of the season. Eggens has earned two straight complete game shutouts.
Scouting the Opponent
Villanova
The Wildcats (3-7) have spent some time in Florida and recently wrapped up play at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational where they went 1-4 with a win over Alabama State.
The Bulls are 15-6 all-time against Villanova. The teams met last season at USF where Villanova picked up a 5-0 win.
Army
The Black Knights (2-8) will spend their spring break in Florida for their annual trip to the Under Armour Showcase. Army last played in the Mary Nutter Classic where they played to a 1-4 finish.
USF leads the Army, 2-0, all-time. The teams met last April, and the Bulls defeated the Black Knights, 2-0.
Iona
The Gaels visit Florida with a 5-4 record. They spent last week at the District Classic in Washington, D.C., where they won four straight games with two shutouts. This will be USF's first meeting with Iona.
Loyola-Chicago
The Ramblers (8-8) are also coming off a week at the EMU Madeira Beach Classic as well as a midweek doubleheader with Northern Kentucky and South Dakota State. Loyola-Chicago split the doubleheader with a 2-0 loss to NKU and 2-1 victory over South Dakota State. This will be the Bull's first meeting with the Ramblers.
