TAMPA (April 6, 2018) – USF dropped its series opener to Houston after the Cougars posted a 9-run seventh inning. Freshman
Georgina Corrick held the Cougars to zero through six innings.
After four and a half scoreless innings, catcher
Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio) led off with a beautiful double down the right field line. Freshman
Jasmine Haynes (Ocala, Fla.) entered to pinch run, and advanced when redshirt junior
Mia Fung reached first on an error by the shortstop. Senior
Cassidy Boyle (Buchanan, N.Y.) sent a deep RBI sacrifice fly into left field, and Haynes sprinted home to put the Bulls on the board.
USF lead, 1-0, entering the seventh inning, but the Cougars posted nine runs in the top of the frame to earn the win.
Quotable
Head coach Ken Eriksen on the game…
"I thought it was a self-destruction in the respect that we didn't make plays. We can't win ball games against good teams by giving them four or five freebies from the mound and three errors in the field. You have to make plays, and we didn't make plays tonight."
