Villar Named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper All-American
TAMPA, MAY 31, 2018 – USF baseball junior third baseman
David Villar has been named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Third Team All-American, the publication announced Thursday.
Villar (Pembroke Pine, Fla.) had a career season at the dish, leading USF with a .379 average to finish second in The American. He led the league with 24 doubles, ranking eighth nationally. It was a figure that ranks third on USF's single-season list.
The third baseman was named to a first team all-conference selection. He added a career best 12 home runs, and his 36 extra-base hits are tied for the second most in the Bulls' single-season history. Villar finished with a team leading 54 RBI and 52 runs scored. Villar becomes the 22
nd All-American in program history and USF has had an All-American in three of the last four years.
The No. 24 Bulls begin their NCAA run as the second seed in the DeLand Regional on Friday at 1 p.m. against third-seeded Oklahoma St. It's the team's third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years and 13
th overall.
