Bulls Finish Regular Season as Champions

TAMPA (May 6, 2018) – USF defeated Wichita State to earn The American regular season title and earn a spot as the top seed in the conference tournament. The Bulls will take on No. 8 UConn in the first round of the tournament on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the USF Softball Stadium.

After a hot start in the first-inning by the Shockers (30-20, 12-9), USF (36-20, 14-6) responded with an exciting second inning to come back from a 1-0 deficit. Freshman Georgina Corrick (Sanford, Fla.) got her first career hit with a double to right field. Freshman Kyndall Williams (Trenton, Fla.) entered to pinch run, and senior Morgan Gross (Reno, Nev.) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that gave Williams a chance to make it home.

The Bulls took the lead in the third inning just before a weather delay that would temporarily suspend the game. A pair of singles by senior Astin Donovan (Guilford, Conn.) and junior Lindsey Devitt (Jacksonville, Fla.) set up for a fielder's choice by junior Macy Cook (Uniontown, Ohio). Cook fired one to the shortstop, and Donovan had a chance and made it home when the Shockers tried to turn a double play at first.

After almost four hours, the game resumed and the Bulls added a run in the sixth inning. Cook singled up the middle and sophomore AnaMarie Bruni entered to pinch run. Corrick reached on an error when a throw got past the first baseman, and Bruni sprinted home from first.

In the circle, Corrick earned her 15th win in her 10th complete game to help secure the regular season championship. She allowed just four hits and didn't walk a single batter.
