USF Baseball Summer Camps Begin June 11
TAMPA, Fla., JUNE 8, 2018 – The USF baseball summer camps are set to begin Monday, June 11 at the USF Baseball Stadium, and will run through July 27.
Â
The first session will be held June 11-15, the second June 18-22, the third July 9-13, the fourth July 16-20 and the fifth July 23-27. USF Baseball Camps and Clinics at the University of South Florida are dedicated to providing baseball camps that are both instructional and informational along with creating a great atmosphere to learn.
Â
Those interested in attending can expect to learn the fundamentals of the sport of baseball from select USF baseball players who compete in one of the top conferences in the country. The American Athletic Conference held the No. 4 RPI this past year and sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament in 2018, which included USF. Many players on the roster have been to NCAA Regionals in each of the last two seasons.
Â
The coaching staff at USF takes pride in teaching the sport of baseball to players of all ages and ability levels. The mechanics and drills that are taught at the summer camps are used with the team during the year.
Â
Leading the camps is Volunteer Assistant Coach
Greg Parris. Parris has been part of the USF baseball program for more than 17 seasons and has over 30 years of baseball coaching experience in the Tampa Bay area. Parris worked primarily with the outfielders in 2018, helping senior
Duke Stunkel Jr.'s development and aiding in his second-straight all-conference selection. Stunkel Jr. batted .330 with 37 runs scored, 16 doubles and 24 RBI. Junior outfielder
Kyle Phillips finished second on the team with a .333 average, 13 doubles, 33 runs and 22 RBI, as he was named to the DeLand Regional All-Tournament team.
Â
Parris started his time with USF in 2002 as an administrative assistant. He was also a volunteer assistant for the Bulls and was hired as the Director of Baseball Operations in 2008. Prior to joining USF, Parris put together a 14-year record of 234-138 in the prep ranks. He was 208-69 in 10 seasons at Brandon High School. Parris led Brandon to six conference titles, four district championships, a pair of regional trophies as well as a trip to the state title game in 1995.
Â
He was named the Florida Athletic Coaches Association District Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996 and the Class 6A Coach of the Year in 1996, when Brandon enjoyed an undefeated regular-season. Forty of his players earned college scholarships and 16 were drafted professionally. Parris earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from USF in 1986 and his master's degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern in 1994.
