Bulls Announce Non-Conference Slate
2018-19 Non-Conference Schedule
TAMPA, JULY 13, 2018 – Ten home games and four matchups against in-state rivals highlight the 2018-19 USF men's basketball non-conference schedule, head coach
Brian Gregory announced on Friday.
USF opens its season Tuesday, Oct. 30, when the Bulls host crosstown rival Tampa in an exhibition game, marking the third time since 2008 that USF will host the Spartans in the preseason. The Bulls begin the regular season one week later at home on Tuesday, Nov. 6 for the program's first-ever meeting with Alabama A&M. USF then welcomes Austin Peay to the Yuengling Center on Monday, Nov. 12 in the first matchup against the Governors since the 1998-99 season.
The Bulls leave the Sunshine State for the first time as USF heads south to the Caribbean to take part in the Jamaica Classic from Montego Bay. The opening round pits USF against Ohio (Nov. 16) with a second-round matchup coming against either Georgetown or Loyola Marymount (Nov. 18). The field also includes Central Connecticut, Campbell, Austin Peay and Florida A&M.
"We're excited for the opportunity to compete at the Jamaica Classic in just its second year of existence," Gregory said. "This tournament provides us with a chance to play two games against quality opponents in a region that loves and supports college basketball."
USF returns to Tampa to begin a four-game homestand that will see the Bulls host Florida A&M (Nov. 21), The Citadel (Nov. 24), Stetson (Nov. 28) and Colgate (Nov. 30). The Bulls open the month of December on the road for the first time when USF travels to Charlotte, N.C., to battle old Conference USA rival Charlotte at Halton Arena.
The Bulls return to the Yuengling Center on Saturday, Dec. 15 to face Appalachian State before heading back on the road to make the short trip to Miami to battle FIU on Tuesday, Dec. 18. USF closes its non-conference schedule with back-to-back home games against Alcorn State (Dec. 21) and Fairleigh Dickinson (Dec. 29).
"Having 10 home games during the non-conference portion of our schedule is a huge advantage for our players and a nice amenity for our fans," Gregory added. "I feel good about our nucleus of players we have returning, and we've added some new pieces that we think will mesh well and contribute as we continue to grow as a program."
Last month, the American Athletic Conference announced home and away match-ups for the 2018-19 conference slate of 18 games. The Bulls will have home and away dates with seven conference teams – UCF, UConn, East Carolina, Houston, SMU, Temple and Tulane – while playing only home dates against two – Memphis and Wichita State – and only road games against two – Cincinnati and Tulsa.
Tip times and broadcast information, as well as the Bulls' complete American Athletic Conference schedule, will be announced at a later date.

About USF Men's Basketball
The USF men's basketball team is led by head coach Brian Gregory. On March 22, 2017, Gregory was introduced as the 10th head coach in program history. He previously led programs at Georgia Tech (2011-16) and Dayton (2003-11). Gregory spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach under Michigan State's Hall of Fame head coach Tom Izzo and helped the Spartans win the 2000 NCAA National Championship. Gregory brings nearly 250 career head coaching wins and six postseason appearances, including the 2010 NIT Championship, to Tampa. In his first season at the helm of the Bulls, Gregory led the team to its first 10-plus win season since 2013-14.
USF has retired three numbers in its 47-year history: Chucky Atkins (12), Charlie Bradley (30) and Radenko Dobras (31). The Bulls have earned three NCAA tournament bids and appeared in the NIT eight times.
