Men’s Soccer To Sign 10 year old Mario “Juju” Duran with Team IMPACT
TAMPA, August 19, 2018–USF men's soccer will partner with Team IMPACT to sign 10-year-old Mario Duran from Zephyrhills, Fla., in an open event on Tuesday, Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fifth Third Bank Arena Club in the Yuengling Center. Duran, affectionately known as "JuJu", courageously battles a rare form of mouth cancer, sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma.
Boston-headquartered national nonprofit Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of team, will partner with USF men's soccer to hold a special Draft Day celebration for Duran, who was diagnosed in 2016. Duran will become an official member of the men's soccer team, and will attend Bulls' practices, games, team dinners and bonding events and more.
Duran will sign an official letter of intent along with special remarks by head coach
Bob Butehorn on Tuesday evening in the Yuengling Center. Fans, media members, and all of the USF Bulls family is invited to join the men's soccer team to support Duran, a top recruit for the Bulls.
Team IMPACT connects children facing serious illnesses to local college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. It is typical for each relationship to last 2-3 years but as each child is different, the timing varies for each relationship.
The Details
- The Draft Day will take place at the Fifth Third Bank Arena Club in the Yuengling Center at
6:30 p.m.
- All media, fans, and any member of Bulls Family are invited to support Mario Duran.
- The entirety of the men's soccer team will be present to welcome their newest teammate.
- Bob Butehorn will be available for media requests.

The Bulls concluded the 2017 regular season with a 6-6-4 overall record and finished fifth in the American Athletic Conference with a 3-2-2 mark. Head Coach Bob Butehorn leads the Bulls in his second season at the helm in 2018.
