Bulls Dominate Detroit Mercy in First Shutout Win, 4-0

TAMPA, AUG. 30, 2018 – USF women's soccer earned its first shutout win of the season on Thursday night when it defeated Detroit Mercy, 4-0, at Corbett Stadium.

Junior forward Evelyne Viens (Canada) had one assist, two goals and five shots against Detroit Mercy. The American Player of the Week came out kicking when she dribbled down the left wing and delivered a pass to Aubrey Megrath (West Palm Beach, Fla.) in the second minute. Megrath shot from the middle of the penalty box netting USF's first goal of the evening.

In the 42nd minute, Canadian trio Olivia Cooke, Fanny Pelletier-Laroche and Viens worked a quick one-two-three to give Viens a chance to score from the center of the box.

In the second half, USF hit a pair of close shots before junior Andrea Hauksdottir (Kopavogur, Iceland) scored off freshman Sydny Nasello's (Land O' Lakes, Fla.) first career assist in the 55th minute. Nasello battled past three defenders, maintaining possession before sending a pass to the top of the box where Haukdsottir took a low shot to the left side of the net.

In the 61st minute Viens took a solo chance. She chipped the ball over the head of a defender, moved around and sent a left-footed shot into the lower left corner beyond the reach of the Detroit Mercy keeper.
