TAMPA, Fla., Sept. 9, 2018–The USF men's soccer team will return home to Corbett Stadium on Monday night to face FAU at 7 p.m., following a 1-0 victory at Ohio State over the weekend.
USF set to Face FAU
USF enters the match coming off a victory over Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio on Friday night. The Bulls defeated the Buckeyes 1-0 after Tomasz Skublak (Hamilton, Canada) scored a first-half goal on a cross from Jonathan Rosales (Kissimmee, Fla.). The Bulls then battled through adversity after a red card and defended their lead with 10 men to seal the victory in the second half.
"After an impressive team effort in Ohio on Friday night, we're looking forward to our return home to play in front of our amazing fans at Corbett Stadium," head coach Bob Butehorn said.
Before Ohio State, the young Bulls fell to four-straight teams who all saw appearances in the top-25 this season. Now battle-tested, USF saw the rewards from its tough non-conference schedule in the power-five victory against the Big Ten Buckeyes.
Goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney, Australia) has stood out for the Bulls in the early season, and was named the American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for Sept. 3, following his back-to-back career-high performances when he earned six and then nine saves in consecutive games. Devenish-Meares added five saves to his season total of 22 against Ohio State and recorded his first shutout of the 2018 campaign.
The Bulls will be without Tomasz Skublak on Monday night due to a red card in Friday's match.
USF Athletics will feature special concessions on Monday night, with chili cheese dogs offered to fans for one night only.
The Opponent
FAU enters the match following a pair of 1-0 overtime wins over St. Thomas and South Carolina, respectively. The Owls opened their season on a roadtrip out west where they were shutout 3-0 by UNLV and 4-0 by Utah Valley.
FAU's two goals this season come from junior forwards Gonzalo Pena Barrasus, and Alex Alexis. Pena Barruses had the golden-goal game winner over St. Thomas in the final moments of a double-overtime effort, while Alexis put the match over South Carolina away three minutes into overtime. Goalkeeper Hagay Jalon also posted shutouts over the two foes.
