Bulls Finish Competition at AAC Championship
MEMPHIS, Tenn., NOV. 1, 2019 – The USF cross country teams both finished in 10th place on Friday at the American Athletic Conference Championship at Shelby Farms Park.
Freshman
Natalie Walsh paced the women's team with a 26th-place finish with a time of 21:44, while freshman
Alexandra Weir (Toronto) was second on the team and 58th overall with a time of 22:36. In addition, the Bulls finished ahead of in-state rival UCF and earned six points in the War on I-4 standings.
On the men's side, junior
Matt Neeley (St. Johns, Fla.) was the top finisher for USF with a time of 26:17 on his way to a 49th-place finish. Freshman
Alec Latzke (Safety Harbor, Fla.) was next for the Bulls and 53rd overall with a time of 26:29.
QUOTABLE
"I'm extremely pleased with the women's overall performance today. We showed a lot of grit today, even with some of members of the team not having their best race. Natalie has come in and been consistent this season. For her to place just outside the top 25 was huge. Alexandra ran tough, but just didn't have it today. She is young, so I see a lot of promise in her for the future. The men continued to improve, but they have so much more to grow. Matt and Alec led us today with solid performances." — USF distance coach
Damon Griffiths.
UP NEXT
USF returns to action Friday, Nov. 15 at 8:30 a.m. when the Bulls travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to race at the NCAA South Region Championship. Â
