A Trio of Bulls Earn Weekly AAC Honors
TAMPA (Nov. 6, 2019) – The USF men's soccer team had a trio of standouts earn weekly American Athletic Conference honors, the league announced on Wednesday.
Javain Brown (Kinston, Jamaica) was named Defensive Player of the Week and
Adrian Billhardt (Berlin, Germany) was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Week.
Harrison Devenish-Meares (Sydney, Australia) was named to the AAC honor roll.
Â
The Bulls, 10-5-1* overall and 4-3-1* in the American Athletic Conference, posted wins last week over Cincinnati (4-0) and Memphis (3-1), with the win over the Tigers catapulting them to the No. 3 seed, and a home match in the first round of the upcoming AAC Tournament.
Â
Brown was a considerable threat during the week on both the offensive and defensive ends of the pitch. As a defender, Brown was tied for the team lead in shots against No. 8 UCF, with all three coming on frame in a 1-0 loss. His three shots on goal were a game-high. He tallied his third goal of the season against Cincinnati on just one shot. On the defensive end, Brown led a defensive corps in allowing just two goals during the week and only 12 shots on goal total. He also stepped up in a big way, helping to lead the defense against Memphis, allowing just one goal, in the season finale.Â
Â
Billhardt recorded a six-point week with three goals and an assist. He netted his first goal of the week against Cincinnati, and followed that up with a two-goal affair against Memphis. His multi-goal game was the third of his collegiate career and the first since 2017.
Â
Devenish-Meares recorded nine saves on the week in helping the Bulls to their 2-1 record. He allowed just two goals in 35 shots faced, including 19 shots on goal. In addition, he logged his fourth shutout of the season, and the seventh of his career, with a 4-0 victory over Cincinnati on Senior Night. He then stepped up in a big way against Memphis in the season finale with four saves.
The Bulls return to the Corbett Stadium pitch on Saturday at 7 p.m., when they host the six seed UConn Huskies in the first round of The American Tournament. The winner will face second-seeded SMU on Nov. 13, at 4:30 p.m., in the AAC semifinals at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex.
